Jammu & Kashmir: 6th June will be recorded in golden letters in the history books of India because on this day Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Katra-Banihal rail section of Jammu and Kashmir. This rail line will not only prove to be the first strong link connecting the valley with the rest of the country but will also open a new path towards the development and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir.

The dream is about to be fulfilled: The valley will be connected to the country

For many decades, the dream of rail connectivity from Kashmir to Kanyakumari was being dreamt of, but the geographical challenges of the Katra-Banihal section had prevented it from being fulfilled. Now, overcoming this obstacle and inaugurating this rail section is no less than a miracle. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called it a "historic day" that will bring new hope for Jammu and Kashmir.

The historic visit will take place amid tight security

Complete security arrangements have been made for the visit of Prime Minister Modi. The Katra, Mahore, and Reasi areas have been declared no-flying zones. The deployment of security forces has been increased so that no unexpected incident takes place and the inauguration ceremony is conducted with complete peace and grandeur.

Vande Bharat Train to Connect Srinagar Seamlessly

The Prime Minister will flag off the Vande Bharat train from Katra to Srinagar in the morning. This train will not only be a symbol of speed but will also take the connectivity and economic activities of the region to new heights. This move will open new doors for tourism, business and employment

Investment in infrastructure: Creating new opportunities

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone and inaugurate development projects worth over Rs 46,000 crore in Jammu and Kashmir on this occasion. These include expansion of modern facilities in health, education, transport, and other sectors, which will deeply impact the socio-economic development of the area.

Engineering feat: World's tallest bridges

The Katra-Banihal rail stretch features the world’s tallest Chenab rail arch bridge and the impressive Anji Khad cable-stayed bridge. There were many natural and technical obstacles in the construction of these bridges, but Indian engineers and workers overcame these challenges with their dedication and efficiency, which led to the construction of this rail line.

Programme outline

Prime Minister Modi will land at Udhampur Air Force Station in the morning and proceed to visit the historic Chenab Bridge, which he will dedicate to the nation.  After this, he will flag off the Vande Bharat train from Katra to Srinagar.
